Winning once again
Alexandre Camacho defends the victory he achieved in 2022 at the Rali Vinho da Madeira and his goal is, "obviously, to be back in the fight for the podium. The ideal would be to win the competition once again. Even though I know that this edition will be very competitive. The rally will have many fast and experienced drivers from the regional, national and international level. In addition, the new Skoda will also be an unknown. We expect a very competitive rally.
In 2023 the difficulties are also increased because the first stage rounds include a wide geographical variation, with different routes and sometimes different weather conditions. All this will make the choice of tyres and settings very difficult. In any case, we will try again. I would also ask the public to pay attention to the safety recommendations so that the rally is a party."
The record holder, with five wins, of victories in the Rali Vinho da Madeira is 43 years old and made his first rally in 2001 with a Toyota Yaris. Throughout his career, he has driven Citroën Saxo, Citroën Saxo Kit-Car, Peugeot 206 S1600, Peugeot 207 S2000, Porsche 997 GT3, Peugeot 208 T16, Skoda Fabia R5 and, since mid-2022, Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo. He was the winner of the FIA European Rally Trophy in 2018 and absolute regional champion six times, in 2008, 2009, 2015 and between 2017 and 2019. He is the leader of the Madeira Coral Rally Championship.
