At the end of day 1
The first day of RVM on the road had 10 stages, on the eastern and northern parts of the Island.
Miguel Campos started very strong and took the leadership, he lost in Palheiro Ferreiro, losing more than 9 seconds to Bruno Magalhães, complaining of a ball bearing problem. The latter kept first place until the end of the leg. In the last stages with daylight, José Pedro Fontes came as close as just a half a second.
In the last stages, already in the night, shone Alexandre Camacho. He started his attack in SS8, won three out of the last four stages (one tied) and finished the night in the second place, 10.4 seconds behind Magalhães.
Miguel Nunes, who was always in the top places, arrives ar Funchal in fourth place, less than 2 seconds away from Fontes.
During the day, there were several retirements (some of the drivers may come back tomorrow in super-rally). The major ones were Robert Consani, Giacomo Costenaro or Filipe Freitas.
34 out of 44 drivers participating in TER reached the finish.
The final day of 2016 RVM will have 8 stages, on the western part of the island.
