Ricardo Gonçalves will be in the next RVM Edition, driving a Renault Clio Rally5, in its first participation of such model in the Island. The Madeiran driver reveals, “There is a great expectation. I will have a car ready to race and I will be in a team that gives me guaranties “I’ve been dating” with the Rally 5 for about 2 years and, although I have tried to compete with this car, I was not able to do so. This car has great performance and is in the ranking of a new type of the sport.
It should have similar performance of the previous R2 as it has a great engine, suspension and transmission. I am hoping I can enjoy this experience with a great outcome, as close to the highest standings as possible."
Gonçalves started the rallies in 2007 with a Toyota Starlet and switched to a Toyota Yaris the following year, being able to conquer the victory in the competition. Between 2015 and 2019, he was mostly on the wheel of a Citroen C2 R2 and had reached great standing in his class. In 2021, he has already used two models and had to withdraw due to a mechanical issue of the Renault Clio RS in Ribeira Brava, still being able to complete the Marítimo Rally with a Citroen Saxo.
