To be the first with five victories

Alexandre Camacho hits the roads of this Rali Vinho da Madeira with a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo. His goals are "the best possible result. However, considering the last editions of the event, I intend to be fighting for the victory. There is strong competition and nothing will be easy. I would very much like to be the first driver with five victories in this rally. In terms of difficulties, the biggest are the opponents, because the list of entries is very good. Besides us, from Madeira, there are only big names of the national and even international competition. We prepared well, we reviewed some details and we are confident". Camacho is 42 years old and made his rally debut in 2001 with a Toyota Yaris. He moved to the wheel of a Citroën Saxo and then to a Citroën Saxo Kit-Car and Peugeot 206 S1600, with which he won the first titles in the category. Since then, he has been Madeira Champion on six occasions, 2008 and 2009 in Peugeot 207 S2000, 2015 with Porsche 997 GT3, 2017 behind the wheel of Peugeot 208 T16, and both 2018 and 2019 with Skoda Fabia R5. He won the FIA European Rally Trophy in 2018. He is second in this year's Madeiran Championship.

How is the CRCM doing?

Four races of the CORAL Madeira Rally Championship already took place in 2022. The competition started in April in São Vicente and right there Miguel Nunes took the lead of the standings. In the following month, the caravan went to Calheta and Nunes dominated again. Alexandre Camacho, now in a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, reacted in June at Ribeira Brava. However, Nunes imposed himself again in July at Faial. In this scenario, Miguel Nunes leads the championship with 43 points ahead of his rival, who is affected by the withdrawal in the opening race. With many good results, Filipe Freitas is third in the competition followed by Paulo Mendes, who also drives a Porsche 991 GT3. Pedro Paixão occupies the fifth position in the Portuguese Car and Karting Federation table. Veteran José Camacho is sixth, preceding the three fastest drivers with front wheel drive cars. After the Rali Vinho da Madeira, he will not be racing the rallies of Câmara Lobos/Funchal and Machico. We will give our best

Miguel Nunes is again participating in the Rali Vinho da Madeira with a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo and his purpose is "to give our best. I foresee a rally with a lot of competitiveness because the entry list is very extensive and with a lot of quality. We'll try to fight for the top places and, for that, we'll do our best. Our opponents are very strong. We prepare ourselves as well as possible and, that way, sometimes things go well. We want to keep the performance we displayed in the last competition, but we are also counting on the reaction of our opponents. We will keep working." Miguel Nunes is 41 years old and took part in his first rally in 2005 with a Citroën C2 VTS. Since then, he has been behind the wheel of cars such as the Peugeot 206 S1600, Peugeot 207 S2000, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, Ford Fiesta R5, Citroën DS3 R5 or Hyundai i20 R5. He has been Madeira Champion five times, in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2020 and 2021. He is the clear leader in the current Madeira Championship.

Madeirans have the right to have an event like this

The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, visited the Rali Vinho da Madeira Headquarters this morning, a facility that has been operational since July 18th and which houses the entire structure involved in the organization of the event. This year, the Headquarters is located at the Marina Forum, with all the conditions and in a privileged location, close to the excitement of the rally. Miguel Albuquerque took the opportunity to underline that "this rally is meant for Madeirans, because Madeirans are huge fans of this rally, the successive generations throughout these more than 60 years of the event, have always liked it and go to the road massively". In a week of great hustle and bustle for the organization of the competition, the President of the Regional Government highlights the complexity and human involvement in the preparation of an event of this magnitude "a rally of this nature requires a lot of work, a lot of organization, a lot of logistics and above all, a lot of voluntary availability of the people who have been connected to the organization of this event for many years. It is very important that the next generations are also willing to volunteer to help in the organization of the event".

Enjoy every moment

Simone Campedelli debuts at the Rali Vinho da Madeira with a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo and is "very happy to be on the island as this is a rally I have followed since I was a child. I remember when I was part of the European Championship and so many idols participated. It takes me back to the times when I was just a fan. Sportingly, I honestly don't know what to expect, but I want to enjoy every moment in the car and give our best. We will see, stage after stage, where we are. It will already be a great pleasure to be at the start and I want to thank the organizers and The Racing Factory for this opportunity". Simone Campedelli is 36 years old and drove his first rally in 2004 in a Citroën C2 VTS. He was in the sport for several seasons with Mitsubishi Lancer Evo but in 2007 he tried the steering wheel of more powerful machines. Between 2014 and 2020 he used mainly Ford Fiesta R5 and Rally2 and last year he raced mainly with VW Polo GTi R5. Since 2021 he has been a regular presence in the ERC with a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo and this year he represents the Indian tyre manufacturer MRF. He was Italian junior champion in 2011, two-wheel-drive champion in 2012 and won the transalpine in gravel and tarmac trophies in 2007 and 2017, respectively.

Ponta do Sol Town Hall signs protocol with the Club Sports da Madeira

The Club Sports da Madeira Organization and the Town Hall of Ponta Sol signed a cooperation protocol within the scope of the Rali Vinho da Madeira 2022. The document signed yesterday ensures a financial support by the council in the amount of three thousand and five hundred euros, for the accomplishment of the Special Stage of Ponta do Sol. The support also aims at the dynamization of touristic animation activities of the municipality.  Célio Pessegueiro, Mayor of Ponta Sol, believes that "the passage of the Rali Vinho da Madeira through Ponta do Sol, not only makes our county known, but also boosts the local economy".

15 teams in the Qualifying

15 teams will participate in the Qualifying of the 63rd edition of the Rali Vinho da Madeira and will be able to choose, by the order of the time recorded in this session, their starting order for the first stage of the Rali Vinho da Madeira. The list may be checked here.

Reconnaissance starts tomorrow

The teams registered in the RVM 2022, are driving by the central of Avenida Arriaga, next to the Operational Centre of the Rally, to put on the cars the regulatory GPS. The cars are identical to those used on a daily basis, displaying in the windscreen a sticker provided by the rally organization and in the rear window another plate with the number assigned in the entry list. The operation is being done by AM@WEB between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The GPS global positioning system will be installed in the competition cars next Wednesday, during the Technical Checks.

Interest in the Rally with great impact on Media and Social Networks

Avenida Arriaga was the setting chosen for the press conference held this afternoon and which sat at the table José Paulo Fontes, President of the Organizing Committee of RVM, Eduardo Jesus, Regional Secretary of Tourism, and Culture and Dorita Mendonça, Tourist Promotion Director. For the speakers, one idea is unanimous: "The Rali Vinho da Madeira is an international event which combines sports competitions and tourism promotion resulting in the dynamization of the regional market".  In the reports of last year's edition, the AVE (Advertising Value Equivalent) of the RVM exceeded 5.5 million euros. This range results from the bet that has been made on the communication of the rally. José Paulo Fontes is convinced that this year this value will be greatly exceeded, "we will have more broadcast with RTP International, national television channels and national and international sports channels ... everything will be done so that the return on the support of the Regional Government is largely compensated. This year, the livestreaming transmissions are a strong bet of the organization both through the website and the social networks of the race, a way to take the atmosphere of the RVM to the international communities, ensuring the great international projection of the rally.  The President of the Organizing Committee believes that the wide dissemination of RVM in the media will be important because "when the International Automobile Federation thinks or rethinks in the future about international rallies, the name of Madeira and the Rali Vinho da Madeira will be on the table, because of the atmosphere that we live, the way we welcome and live the rally, an inter-generational event". José Paulo Fontes took the opportunity to once again apologize, as he puts it "we are going to cause inconvenience to those who make their lives in the centre of Funchal, but it is for a good cause it is for Madeira, for the promotion of Madeira and for the environment that is being lived and which the Madeirans can’t live without".  The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus stressed the importance of the RVM being a rally of regional, national and international reference, "the VAE is the product of the notoriety created by the Rali vinho da Madeira, which allows us to quickly draw a conclusion: the investment in this event is multiplied by ten only in terms of the notoriety of the event itself.  The Secretary added that "we are sure that the RVM's multiplier effect is much greater than this value of EAV and therefore, I would like to point out that only a special event can achieve this multiplier effect. We need events that have this capacity to mark Madeira's presence abroad". Madeira is a destination that has a lot to offer. Fighting for the victory

Bruno Magalhães will drive a Hyundai i20N Rally2 in Rali Vinho da Madeira, a race for which, "as it is known, I’m especially fond of. The car I have is fast and I hope to be at a level above the one I showed in Faial so that I may fight for victory. This would be my fourth consecutive victory in Madeira for the CPR. We still have one more test and we will have a lot of information to use to set the car. I foresee a very difficult rally but we all hope it will be the traditional party again. I advise the public to keep the traditional good safety behaviour so that the competition can aspire to move up in the rankings". Magalhães is 42 years old and made his rally debut in 1999 with a VW Golf GTi 16V. In 2002 he started competing with a Peugeot 206 GTi and in 2004 he won the mono-brand trophy with the model in 2004. Between 2005 and 2011 he represented Peugeot and was national champion three times between 2007 and 2009. Between 2014 and 2018 he had a private international programme and was European Vice-Champion in 2017 with a Skoda Fabia R5. In 2019 he returned to the national championship with Hyundai, the brand he still defends. Currently fourth in the CPR, he has won the Rali Vinho da Madeira on four occasions.

Fighting for the top five

Bernardo Sousa returns to the Madeira Wine Rally with a Citroën C3 Rally2. The goal of the Madeiran is "to fight for the podium in the CPR. I don't have the same rhythm as my adversaries. At the Faial Rally I got good indicators, but this race is very long. This rally has its secrets and some small changes that exist this year reduce the advantage of knowledge. However, the pilots who usually race in Madeira always have the advantage of knowing the level of adherence. We want to fight for the top five even if, after 2019, we have only done about 100 kilometres with this car..." Bernardo Sousa is 35 years old and made his rallying debut in 2005 with a 2000 Ford Escort RS. In the following year he alternated mostly between Peugeot 206 S1600 in the Madeira championship and a Skoda Fabia TDi in the national competition. In the two following years he used a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX and got his first victory at Porto Santo in 2007. This then in a world campaign with a Fiat Punto S2000. He returned to the national championship, which he won in 2010 with a Ford Fiesta S2000. In the last few years he has not had a full programme but is preparing to compete in the remaining CPR season.
