Simone Campedelli was second in Roma
Less than a week before his participation in Rali Vinho da Madeira, Simone Campedelli took part this weekend in the Rally di Roma Capitale, the fifth event of the ERC 2024. The Italian, who, as usual, teamed up with Tania Canton in a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, was one of the animators of this event that brought together the best competitors from the European and transalpine championships.
Campedelli won one of the 13 stages on the programme but was always in contention for the podium places. The driver recalled that ‘we had a problem with the intercoms in the first stage, but I didn't lose much time as it was short. We were ‘MacGyvered’ in the liaison stage and went into the next special with little concentration. For the team, we're very happy with this podium. But also sad because I gave everything and would have liked to have won.’
The winner of the Rally di Roma Capitale was Italian Andrea Crugnola in a Citroën C3 Rally2, who only failed to lead for two stages and finished with a lead of 22.3 seconds over Campedelli. The lowest place on the podium was taken by Spaniard Efren Llarena, the 2022 European champion, in another Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 and 27.9 seconds off the top spot.
