Armindo Araújo is the leader of the Portuguese Championship

Although there are still three circuits missing until the end of the championship (Rali Vinho da Madeira, Rali Amarante Baião and Rali Casinos do Algarve), Armindo Araújo is the leader of the Portuguese Championship.

In Rali Serras de Fafe, the first of the season, Ricardo Moura was the winner being followed by Miguel Barbosa and Pedro Meireles. José Pedro Fontes, on this return to the competition after a severe injury, ended in the fourth position. Armindo Araújo, at the wheel of a Hyundai closed the top 5.

Around 800 people work together to make RVM a safe racing

Security is the keystone in Rali Vinho da Madeira (RVM). Preparation starts months ahead so that every detail is discussed. Therefore, meetings are essential as the one that recently grouped the control managers, the security heads of the special courses and the security stewards.

Luis Madruga, head of the security team, said that between 700 to 800 people work in this area that includes the Police Department, the security directors, firemen, forest guards, city hall among others. “Zero cars” are also vital in this task.

Joachim Wagemans is a RVM fan

At 10’clock this morning, the Belgium pilot, Joachim Wagemans whose car caught spectators’ attention last year because of its decoration with publicity by a famous fast-food chain, came to pick up his material and documents.

The 23-year-old pilot who was at Madeira for the first time in 2017 to join the Rally admitted being thrilled by coming back since his memories of last year race are excellent.

Rali Vinho da Madeira is an emblematic event held in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and this year’s edition, the 59th, testifies the charisma of this car race that promotes the name of the Island and its famous wine around the world.
