Alexandre Camacho will be number 1

The entries list of Rali Vinho da Madeira will be presented next Wednesday, 28th july. Even though the document presented by Club Sports Madeira still needs the approval of both international and national federations, the number 1 will be on the doors of Alexandre Camacho and Pedro Calado’s Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo. This is due to the fact the Madeiran driver is the only competitor in the event with FIA priority. Camacho has such status for being the winner, in 2018, of the European Rally Trophy, with its finale performed in the Casino do Algarve Rally, therefore keeping this status until the 31st December of this year. The list of drivers with priority in the regional rallies of the international federation is a document of only 43 drivers around the world and only a few countries are represented in this list by more than one driver. Portugal, as most countries, is only represented in such document by the Madeiran driver, Alexandre Camacho.

2021 edition has the same itinerary and a new Qualifying and Power Stage

The 2021 edition of RVM has the same itinerary as last year. Nevertheless, it is going to present a new Qualifying system and a Power Stage. José Paulo Fontes believes that Madeira will have a very competitive rally and asks everyone who is going to watch it to do it safely and be vaccinated: “It’s important that the RVM is not a dissemination factor of Covid 19”. Regarding such situation, he has announced the development of a set of measures by the Regional Health Authorities.  The President of the Organization Committee of RVM 2021 assured that public health should be considered a priority. José Paulo Fontes has announced that the grant amount of the region is 250 million euros, an amount that reflects the time we live in now. RVM is a lot more than a motorsport competition, as the Island stops with the rally and the social and economic benefits are higher than its costs.

The President of the Autonomous Region of Madeira - Miguel Albuquerque

It is with utmost happiness that we witness, in 2021, the accomplishment of one of the greatest automobile sports competitions, acknowledged as one of the best at European level.  The 62nd edition of Rali Vinho da Madeira has fulfilled all the requirements to have the competition on the roads on the 5th August, thanks to the effort of all local people from Madeira and Porto Santo, who have cooperated in a responsive, civic way the restrictions imposed by Covid- 19, in order to assure the restart of the normal daily life in our Region. I am certain that, in the name of common will, the Rali Vinho da Madeira will be performed safely.  I appreciate the effort everyone did last year. It was, once again, the revelation that we are stoic and selfless!  Rali Vinho da Madeira is an event of all Madeirans. More than an event for those who visit us, it’s our own festivity. It’s our soul that gives life to the gathering of people on the roads. There’s nothing left for me to say but to wish a great rally to everyone and be safe on and off the roads. About 50 entries in Rali Vinho da Madeira

Although the deadline set for the entries is next Monday, 19th July, there are about 50 competitors that have already formalized their entrant in Rali Vinho da Madeira. The competition organized by Club Sports da Madeira has, once again, an excellent number of entries, of which about 20 are from outside our arquipelago. At the event, that will be on the road between the 5th and 7th August, the Spanish Jan Solans will be here, as well as those who are, at the current time, first classified in the Portuguese Championship of Rallies. Armindo Araújo, driving a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, and Ricardo Teodósio, driving a similar car, and Bruno Magalhães, behind the wheel of a Hyundai i20 R5 should be of great enthusiasm to the dedicated and zealous spectators.  The most important competition of the local calendar will have the drivers that usually compete for the first places of the podium in the regional rallies, as well as José Pedro Fontes, behind the wheel of a Citroën C3 Rally2, and Pedro Meireles, driving a VW Polo GTi R5, who will start their performance in Rali Vinho da Madeira in the event that precedes it in the calendar of the Islands’ competition.

Jan Solans in Rali Vinho da Madeira

Jan Solans will be one of the drivers for the next Rali Vinho da Madeira, on the roads on the 5th and 7th August. A quite young driver, Solan will be on the island with the Citroën C3 Rally2, which is used to defend the colours of Citroen. Born on Christmas day, in 1997, the Spanish driver started competing in the rallies in 2016 and was highly noticed in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, as his team won not only in the Spanish Championship but also ERT2 in FIA ERT Iberian Rally Trophy. In the following year, he drove a Peugeot 208 R2 and with that car won the land rally Championship in Spain. in 2019 he switched to the commands of the Ford Fiesta R2T and became the Junior Champion in the WRC. In 2020, he chose a way more powerful vehicle, the Ford Fiesta Rally2 and, in 2021 is representing the Spanish Citroen. He got a second place in the podium in the Sierra Morena and Tierras Altas de Lorca Rallies and the third in the WRC3 in Rally d’Italia Sardegna, a competition included in the World Championship.

Clerk of the Course - Pedro Melvill Araújo

Greetings RVM 2021
The first weekend of August is almost here. It brings us the tradition of having the Rali Vinho da Madeira which is, undoubtedly, the greatest social and sports event of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and is also a competition of firm credits, one of the stars that shine the most in the universe of European Rallies, as well as in the national and regional perspective. It has been a competition of reference for many decades, including, as you might expect, drivers from different European countries, this year limited due to the restrictions imposed by the Health Authorities to the circulation of people, drivers who compete in the Portuguese Rally Championship and the Madeira Coral Rally Championship, in a competition that usually attracts thousands and thousands of local people, this year with restrictions due to the sanitarian control situation, imperative to the control of the epidemic that has been ravaging the world. Our spectators have always been a great example in their civic behaviour and diligent in their support to the drivers and to the Rally Organization and it is, after all, for them that we work too, because if without drivers, there is no rally, without audience there is no show. Once again, we will not have the Avenida do Mar special stage show, as a result of the circumstances previously mentioned of sanitary control, but we will have, on Thursday’s afternoon, a Ceremony of the Competitors’ Presentation, at the podium placed in Praça do Povo. In the following two days, they will drive through the four corners of our Island, crossing every Municipality of Madeira, reassuring the performance and festivity, a controlled gathering with all norms set by the regional, national and international Health Authorities.  As usual, I recommend everyone to watch the rally close to the emotion but far from the danger, as I ask local people to have, as they always do, an exemplary behaviour in order to brighten this completion that is not just Madeiran, it is also from Madeira. An enormous thank you to everyone! Have a great Rali Vinho da Madeira 2021, Pedro Melvill de Araújo
