Simone Campedelli keeps running away from the caravan

After a "scare" at the end of today's first round of rali Vinho da Madeira, Simone Campedelli returned to the pace he had been showing until then and has, in the two special stages already contested this afternoon, been the best. The Italian, driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, recovered the time lost in Santana 1 and now has a 16.1 second lead over the rest of the caravan. In second place is the Spaniard Diego Ruiloba, who complained about the behaviour of his Citroën C3 Rally2 on the second pass through Palheiro Ferreiro. Armindo Araújo meanwhile consolidated third place. Fourth and fifth respectively, Alexandre Camacho and Miguel Nunes will be separated by 4.7 seconds, with the advantage going to the driver making his debut in the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.

Vítor Sá leads Peugeot Rally Cup

One of the attractions of the 65th Rali Vinho da Madeira is the presence of the Peugeot Rally Cup, a mono-brand competition in which ten and a half drivers use the French brand's 208 Rally4 model. Vítor Sá from Madeira is the leader for this competition, where he has a lead of 4.5 seconds over the Spaniard Miguel Garcia. Hugo Lopes, the trophy's driver ahead of the event organised by Club Sports da Madeira, is third, 7.9 seconds off the lead. Further back are Unai de la Dehesa and Pedro Pereira, in second place.

Sustainability is the "way forward for motorsport"

Brama Motorsports is the company responsible for supplying fuel to the drivers taking part in Rali Vinho da Madeira.  André Cortinhas, managing partner and experienced motorsport professional, both as a driver and team coordinator, explained the importance of the new features introduced at Rali Vinho da Madeira in terms of environmental sustainability. The cars are fuelled by ETS fuel, which, among other products, offers "a sustainable petrol that doesn't use any fossil fuels and is 100 per cent created in laboratories. It is mapped so that it is suitable for this type of circuit vehicle, off-road and used in all types of motorised sport." In addition to the fuel, ABSO Environmental Canvas is being used, developed in laboratories and production plants in the north of the country. The special feature is that it complies with the FIA's requirements: "the lower base, which touches the ground, is waterproof and the upper part repels water and absorbs petrol, liquid oils and valvolines", respecting the parameters required by the FIA. André Cortinhas believes that "this will be the way forward", although there is some resistance to the changes on the part of the drivers, due to the tests that have to be carried out on the vehicles, it is certain that "they fully realise that this is the way forward."

Joachim Wagemans overcomes the RGTs

Joachim Wagemans, who returns to Rali Vinho da Madeira in an Alpine A110 RGT, has dominated the events among the drivers in RGT cars. A regular in this group, Filipe Freitas is second in his Porsche 997 GT3, 57.6 seconds behind the Belgian driver, who is leading the category. Also in an Alpine A110 RGT, Gil Freitas is 1.11.4 seconds off the top of the class. Also classified are Miguel Andrade and Paulo Mendes in their debut Porsche 992 GT3.

Rui Jorge Fernandes isolated in two-wheel drive

The battle for the lead among the two-wheel drive drivers in Rali Vinho da Madeira was expected to be very lively, but Rui Jorge Fernandes, at the wheel of a Renault Clio Rally4, went on the attack this Friday morning, 2nd August, was the best in his category in all the special stages and has a lead of 27.3 seconds in the class. Vítor Sá has been improving his performance with his Peugeot 208 Rally4 and is second ahead of Vasco Silva, 29.8 seconds behind him and his usual rival in the Madeiran championship.
